When do you need a Windows Server 2022 additional core license?
Windows Server 2022 Standard is licensed by physical core, with a minimum of 16 cores per server. A base license covers those first 16 cores. If a server has more than 16 physical cores, you add core licenses in packs to cover the rest. This 16 Additional Core pack (P73-08459) does exactly that, taking a fully populated 32-core server, for example, from 16 licensed cores up to 32. It supplements a base license rather than replacing it, so pair it with the Windows Server 2022 Standard base license the server already runs.
