SonicWall NSa 4800 High Availability Unit with 20 Gbps Firewall Throughput, 1.38 GB/s VPN, 24 Ports with 8 SFP+, and Passive Failover for Enterprise Firewall Redundancy Deployments
The SonicWall NSa 4800 High Availability unit (03-SSC-7039) is the passive failover companion for the NSa 4800 primary appliance, providing automatic firewall redundancy for enterprise environments where network downtime is not acceptable. This HA unit contains identical Gen 8 hardware to the primary NSa 4800, delivering 20 Gbps firewall throughput, 1.38 GB/s VPN throughput, and 1.63 GB/s IPS throughput with 140,000 new connections per second across 24 Gigabit Ethernet ports and 8 SFP+ expansion slots in a 1U rack-mount chassis, and activates as the live firewall within seconds if the primary unit fails or loses connectivity.
The HA unit operates in Active/Passive mode, continuously synchronizing configuration, session state, and security policy with the primary NSa 4800 so that failover is seamless to connected users and VPN tunnels. This unit requires a separately purchased primary NSa 4800 with an active security subscription; the HA unit inherits the primary's licensed security services during failover without requiring its own subscription. The 40G/25G/10G/5G/2.5G/1G port speed support, Network Security Manager integration, and SonicOS 8 network operating system ensure the HA unit is an identical standby for every capability the primary provides.
Where the SonicWall NSa 4800 HA Unit Fits
- Enterprise networks requiring zero-downtime firewall redundancy where the Active/Passive HA pair ensures that a primary appliance failure triggers automatic failover to the standby unit within seconds, the session state synchronization maintains active VPN tunnels and user connections through the transition, and the 20 Gbps throughput capacity of the standby unit matches the primary so there is no performance degradation during failover
- Data center and campus edge deployments with uptime SLAs where compliance frameworks or business continuity plans require redundant security infrastructure at the network perimeter, the 1U rack-mount form factor allows both the primary and HA units to occupy only 2U of total rack space, and the 3,000 concurrent VPN tunnel capacity on the standby unit protects remote workforce connectivity even during a primary failure
- Organizations building N+1 redundancy into critical network paths where the HA unit provides insurance against hardware failure without requiring a full duplicate subscription investment, the Network Security Manager monitors both primary and HA units from a single SaaS console for proactive health alerting, and the identical 24-port plus 8 SFP+ port layout means the same cabling and topology applies to both units
What the SonicWall NSa 4800 HA Unit Delivers
