Gen 7 Desktop NGFW with 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet, Dual SFP+ Expansion, Expandable Storage, and 1-Year TotalSecure Essential License for Mid-Size Networks
The SonicWall TZ470 is a Gen 7 next-generation firewall that brings multi-gigabit performance and SFP+ expansion to a desktop form factor built for mid-size offices, distributed branches, and SD-Branch deployments. Eight 2.5/1 GbE RJ-45 ports and two SFP+ expansion slots provide the port density and throughput headroom to handle encrypted web traffic, connected devices, and high-speed mobility without bottlenecking, and this SKU (02-SSC-6792) includes a 1-year TotalSecure Essential Edition license with Capture ATP, Gateway Anti-Virus, Anti-Spyware, IPS, Application Control, and Content Filtering out of the box.
The TZ470 is part of the SonicWall Gen 7 TZ Series and runs SonicOS 7.0 with integrated SD-WAN, TLS 1.3 inspection, and real-time visualization. Capture Advanced Threat Protection with Real-Time Deep Memory Inspection (RTDMI) analyzes unknown files in the cloud sandbox to block zero-day threats and ransomware at the gateway. Built-in storage expandable to 256GB supports local logging, reporting, and firmware backup, and an optional second power supply provides redundancy for always-on deployments. Zero-Touch Deployment and SonicExpress App onboarding simplify rollout across multiple locations with minimal IT support.
Where the TZ470 Fits
- Mid-size offices and branch locations with 50 to 150 users where eight 2.5 GbE ports and two SFP+ expansion slots provide the bandwidth for encrypted web traffic, VoIP, and cloud application access, the 1-year Essential license delivers full threat protection from day one, and the desktop form factor fits on a shelf or in a rack with the optional mounting kit
- SD-Branch and distributed enterprise locations where integrated SD-WAN replaces dedicated WAN optimization appliances, Zero-Touch Deployment enables remote provisioning without on-site IT, and centralized management through SonicWall Network Security Manager provides single-pane-of-glass visibility across all branch firewalls
- Retail, healthcare, and education environments with compliance requirements where Capture ATP with RTDMI blocks zero-day malware and ransomware before it reaches endpoints, DPI-SSL inspects encrypted traffic without degrading throughput, and TAA compliance meets federal procurement standards for government-adjacent organizations
What the TZ470 Delivers
- 8-Port 2.5 GbE with Dual SFP+ Expansion: Eight 2.5/1 Gigabit Ethernet RJ-45 ports for high-density LAN and WAN connectivity. Two SFP+ expansion slots for 10 Gigabit fiber uplinks. Desktop or rack-mountable form factor at 7.5 x 5.3 x 1.4 inches, 1.83 pounds.
- Capture ATP with RTDMI: Cloud-based multi-engine sandbox analyzes unknown files with Real-Time Deep Memory Inspection to detect and block zero-day threats, malware, and ransomware. Reassembly-Free Deep Packet Inspection (RFDPI) scans all traffic without proxying or buffering.
- SonicOS 7.0 with SD-WAN: Integrated SD-WAN, TLS 1.3 support, and real-time visualization. Application Intelligence and Control identifies and prioritizes traffic by application. VPN with DES, 3DES, and AES (128/192/256-bit) encryption.
- Expandable Storage and Redundant Power: Built-in storage expandable to 256GB for local logging, reporting, caching, and firmware backup. Optional second power supply for hardware redundancy on always-on deployments.
- 1-Year TotalSecure Essential License: Includes Gateway Anti-Virus, Anti-Spyware, Intrusion Prevention, Application Control, Content Filtering, and Capture ATP. SonicExpress App and Zero-Touch Deployment for fast multi-site rollout. TAA compliant.
What Is the Difference Between the TZ470 and TZ480
The SonicWall TZ470 is a Gen 7 firewall running SonicOS 7.0, while the TZ480 is its Gen 8 successor with updated hardware and higher throughput ratings. The TZ470 provides eight 2.5 GbE ports, two SFP+ slots, expandable storage, and the full Gen 7 security stack including Capture ATP with RTDMI, SD-WAN, and TLS 1.3 inspection. For organizations that do not need the Gen 8 throughput improvements, the TZ470 delivers the same core security services and SD-WAN capabilities at a lower price point, making it a strong value option for mid-size offices and branch deployments where the Gen 7 performance envelope is sufficient.
