Long-Range 5 GHz CPE with 23 dBi Directional Antenna for WISP Subscriber Connections
The Ubiquiti LiteBeam M5 (LBE-M5-23) is an ultra-lightweight 5 GHz CPE radio with an integrated 23 dBi directional antenna designed for subscriber-side connections to WISP base stations. The high-gain dish focuses the signal in a narrow beam toward the access point, providing long-range connectivity while rejecting noise from other directions. At 1.65 lb, it mounts on a pole or mast at the subscriber location with minimal hardware and assembles in seconds without tools.
The LiteBeam M5 runs the airMAX protocol and operates across the 5.15 to 5.875 GHz range. Its three-axis ball-joint mount provides full alignment flexibility for aiming at distant base stations, and the compact form factor keeps shipping costs low for operators who deploy hundreds of CPE units across their subscriber base. The LBE-M5-23 connects to any airMAX AP, including Rocket M5, LiteAP, and other airMAX base station equipment.
Where the LiteBeam M5 Fits
- WISP subscriber installations where the CPE needs enough gain to reach a distant base station tower, and the lightweight form factor keeps installation simple on residential poles, rooftops, and masts
- Point-to-point links on a budget where two LiteBeam M5 units provide a cost-effective wireless bridge between buildings, with 23 dBi of gain on each end for maximum link distance
- High-density CPE deployments where a WISP needs an affordable, easy-to-install subscriber radio that ships in compact packaging and assembles quickly at each customer site
What the LiteBeam M5 Delivers
- 23 dBi integrated directional antenna: High-gain dish focuses the signal toward the base station and rejects interference from other directions. No separate antenna or RF cables needed.
- 5.15 to 5.875 GHz operating range: Covers the full 5 GHz UNII spectrum for maximum channel flexibility. Compatible with all airMAX base stations operating in the 5 GHz band.
- Ultra-lightweight at 1.65 lb: Lightweight construction simplifies rooftop and pole installations. Three-axis ball-joint mount provides full alignment adjustment and assembles without tools.
- PoE powered with GbE port: Single Ethernet cable delivers power and data from the included PoE adapter. One cable run from the indoor equipment to the outdoor radio.
What Is the Range of the LiteBeam M5?
With 23 dBi of antenna gain at 5 GHz, the LiteBeam M5 is designed for long-distance subscriber links. Range depends on the base station antenna, channel width, and environmental conditions, but the LBE-M5-23 is commonly deployed at distances of 5 to 30+ kilometers in clear line-of-sight conditions. Narrower channel widths (10 or 20 MHz) extend the usable range further by improving receiver sensitivity, while wider channels (40 MHz) provide higher throughput at shorter distances. The directional antenna pattern focuses gain toward the base station, making the LiteBeam M5 effective even in noisy RF environments where omni-directional CPE devices would struggle.
