Compact 2.4 GHz Outdoor CPE with Integrated 8.5 dBi Antenna for Long-Range Wireless Bridging
The Ubiquiti airMAX NanoStation Loco M2 (LocoM2) is a 2.4 GHz outdoor CPE with an integrated 8.5 dBi directional antenna, 2x2 MIMO, and airMAX TDMA protocol for multi-kilometer point-to-point or point-to-multipoint links. It operates as either an access point or client station, powers from a 24V passive PoE adapter (included), and mounts on any pole with the included hardware. Managed through UISP for fleet-wide networking device management or configured standalone via the airOS web interface.
The Loco M2 is the lower-cost, single-port variant in the NanoStation M2 family. It trades the standard NanoStation M2's second Ethernet port and higher 11 dBi antenna gain for a smaller form factor and lower price point, while keeping the same airMAX radio, TDMA protocol, and outdoor-rated enclosure. For links under 5 km where budget matters more than maximum gain, it delivers the same reliability in a smaller package.
Where the NanoStation Loco M2 Fits
- Point-to-point bridges between buildings where a cost-effective 2.4 GHz link carries security camera backhaul, POS traffic, or internet access across a parking lot, campus, or property without trenching cable
- Last-mile CPE for WISPs and rural deployments where subscriber stations need an affordable 2.4 GHz client device that pole-mounts quickly and connects back to an airMAX base station at the tower
- Outdoor WiFi extensions for surveillance systems where remote cameras or NVRs need network connectivity in locations without wired infrastructure and the 60-degree beamwidth provides focused coverage on a target area
What the NanoStation Loco M2 Delivers
- 2.4 GHz airMAX with TDMA: The airMAX TDMA protocol eliminates the hidden node problem in PtMP deployments and provides predictable throughput per client even as the network scales.
- 8.5 dBi integrated directional antenna: Dual-polarization, 60-degree beamwidth (H/V/Elevation). Focused enough for point-to-point links while wide enough for small-sector PtMP coverage.
- Passive PoE with included adapter: Runs on 24V passive PoE. Adapter ships in the box. Single Ethernet cable carries both power and data to the unit on the pole.
- Outdoor-rated enclosure: UV-stabilized plastic housing rated for outdoor mounting. Compact form factor with integrated pole mount hardware included.
NanoStation M2 vs NanoStation Loco M2
The standard NanoStation M2 (NSM2) has two 10/100 Ethernet ports, 11 dBi antenna gain, and a larger enclosure. The Loco M2 has one Ethernet port, 8.5 dBi gain, and a smaller body. Both run the same airMAX firmware, support the same TDMA protocol, and manage through UISP. Choose the Loco M2 for shorter links (under 5 km) or subscriber CPE deployments where cost per unit matters. Choose the standard M2 when you need the extra Ethernet port for passthrough or the additional 2.5 dB of gain for longer-distance links.
