Mount ceiling access points in the center of the coverage area, ideally 8 to 12 feet high. Avoid placing them directly above metal ductwork or inside enclosed ceiling cavities. Wall-mount and in-wall APs should be installed at desk height or outlet height, depending on the model and room layout.

How many indoor access points do I need per floor?

Plan for one access point per 1,500 to 2,500 square feet of open indoor space. Dense environments like conference rooms or classrooms may need one AP per 1,000 square feet. Walls, glass partitions, and building materials all affect coverage, so a site survey is recommended for accurate planning.

Do indoor access points require a controller?

It depends on the manufacturer. Ubiquiti UniFi access points are managed through the free UniFi Network application. HPE Aruba Instant On APs can run standalone or with a cloud dashboard. Enterprise-grade systems from Cisco and Aruba often require a dedicated controller or cloud subscription for full feature access.
