Ubiquiti UniFi Enterprise Buying Guide

Ubiquiti's UniFi Enterprise line takes the UniFi platform into campus networks, large offices, and high-density venues. It runs on the same UniFi console as standard UniFi gear, so a team that already knows UniFi can add 10 GbE access points, Layer 3 campus switching, and 25G gateways without learning a new system. Everything is managed from one place, from the firewall at the edge to the cameras and door readers.

Enterprise WiFi: E7 and U6 Enterprise Access Points

The E7 is the flagship WiFi 7 access point, with three bands and a 10 GbE uplink built for floors where 1,000 or more devices connect at once. For parking lots, athletic fields, and links between buildings, the E7 Campus uses directional antennas in a weatherproof IP67 housing, and the E7 Campus Indoor is the WiFi 7, 10 GbE option for dense indoor campus spaces. The E7 Audience is built for stadiums, arenas, and convention centers where thousands of people crowd into one space. For WiFi 6E, the U6 Enterprise covers ceiling installs, and the U6 Enterprise In-Wall mounts flush in hotel rooms and offices with a small switch built in for wired devices.

Layer 3 Switching from the Closet to the Core

UniFi Switch Enterprise models handle the access layer, with 2.5 GbE PoE+ ports for access points that outgrow a gigabit port, 10G SFP+ uplinks, and Layer 3 routing between VLANs. The 8 PoE fits a small closet or desk, and the 24 and 48 port models serve larger access point and camera deployments. The Enterprise XG 24 connects servers and workstations at 10 GbE with 25G uplinks. Above them, the Enterprise Campus switches run the distribution and core layers: the ECS-48-PoE pairs 10 GbE ports with up to 90W of PoE per port and dual hot-swap power supplies, and the ECS Aggregation ties closets and buildings together over 25G SFP28.

Gateways and Firewalls

The Enterprise Fortress Gateway and the UniFi Gateway Enterprise both route at 12.5 Gbps with IDS/IPS threat inspection turned on, connect over 25G SFP28, and run dual hot-swap power supplies, so a failed supply can be replaced while the gateway keeps running. Both support Shadow Mode, which pairs two gateways so the second takes over if the first goes down. The Fortress Gateway is the flagship, built for 5,000 or more clients, with BGP and OSPF dynamic routing for multi-site networks.

Surveillance and Door Access

The Enterprise NVR records up to 210 UniFi Protect cameras at HD resolution across 16 hot-swap drive bays with 10G networking, sized for campuses that have outgrown smaller recorders. It runs UniFi Access as well, so cameras and doors share one appliance. The G6 Dome and G6 Pro Dome are 4K cameras with AI detection, and the Pro Dome adds optical zoom. For doors, the Enterprise Access Hub controls eight doors from one UL 294 certified unit, with PoE for the readers and battery backup to keep doors in their set state during an outage.

When to Choose Enterprise over Standard UniFi

Standard UniFi handles a typical office well. Enterprise makes sense when access points need more than a gigabit of backhaul, when you're routing between VLANs at the switch, when the network spans several buildings, or when hardware has to stay up through a power supply failure. Both run on one console, so you can put Enterprise at the core and use standard UniFi switches and UniFi access points where gigabit is enough.
