Start Mirrored at 4TB, Fill the Other Two Bays When You Need Them
Buying storage for a workgroup means guessing how much will be needed in three years, and guessing high is expensive. This configuration sidesteps that: the chassis has four bays but ships with two 2TB drives installed, so the array can start as a mirrored 4TB pair and grow into the empty bays later without replacing the appliance or migrating to a new box. Buffalo includes the drives, the Cat5e cable, and the power cable, and the unit is TAA compliant and made in Japan. Deployment Notes
- As shipped, two drives populate the four bays. RAID 1 mirroring, RAID 0, and JBOD are available at that count.
- The chassis itself supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10 and JBOD, so filling the remaining two bays with matching drives opens up parity configurations later.
- Two RJ-45 ports cover both 2.5 Gigabit and standard Gigabit Ethernet, so the unit is not capped at 1GbE on a modern switch.
- Desktop footprint at 6.7 inches wide by 9.1 deep and 10.6 lb, sized for a shelf or under a desk rather than a rack.
