Aggregate a Growing Network Into a Fast, Redundant 10G Core

As a business network adds access switches, cameras, and servers, the gigabit links back to the core become the bottleneck, and a single failure can take everything down. The TP-Link Omada SG6428X answers both with 24 gigabit ports, four 10G SFP+ uplinks, full Layer 3 routing, and built-in redundancy in a 1U chassis. Browse more TP-Link gear or other Layer 3 switches.

How It Works

The SG6428X gives you 24 Gigabit RJ45 ports for access devices and four 10 Gbps SFP+ slots to aggregate traffic or uplink to a faster core, backed by 128 Gbps of switching capacity. Full Layer 3 routing, including RIP, OSPF, ECMP, and VRRP, lets it route between VLANs and act as a distribution or core switch. You can run it standalone through the web interface, CLI, or SNMP, or adopt it into the Omada SDN controller for centralized, cloud-based management across a whole site.

Highlights

  • 24 Gigabit ports plus 4x 10G SFP+: gigabit access with 10G fiber uplinks and 128 Gbps switching capacity.
  • Layer 3 routing: RIP, OSPF, ECMP, VRRP, PIM-DM, and DHCP server and relay for real inter-VLAN routing.
  • Physical stacking: stack units together for added capacity and built-in redundancy.
  • Enterprise security with ACLs, port security, DoS defense, and 802.1X authentication.
  • Standalone or Omada SDN cloud management, in a rack-mountable 1U chassis.

What keeps it running if a power supply fails?

The SG6428X ships with two internal fixed power supplies, so if one fails, the other keeps the switch online instead of dropping the whole segment. It also supports VRRP for gateway redundancy and ERPS for fast ring recovery, and physical stacking adds another layer of resilience. For a distribution or core role where downtime is expensive, that redundancy is what makes it dependable.
