The Crosshair X870E Dark Hero starts from a different place with five M.2 interfaces, four SATA ports, PCIe 5.0 support, and two network ports covering 10 Gigabit and 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet alongside Wi-Fi 7. Which Is Better, X870 or X870E?
The E is the higher tier of the same generation, not a newer one. Both are AM5 chipsets for Ryzen 9000 and 7000 series processors, and both support DDR5 and PCIe 5.0, so a board on either will run the same CPU. What X870E adds is expansion headroom: more total connectivity for people filling multiple M.2 slots, adding expansion cards, and running high-speed networking at the same time. On this particular board that shows up as five M.2 interfaces, four SATA ports, and both 10GbE and 2.5GbE wired networking on one board. For a single-GPU, single-drive build, X870 is usually sufficient. For a workstation-grade build where storage and I/O accumulate, the extended chipset is what stops the board becoming the bottleneck.
