19 dBi 5 GHz Point-to-Point Bridge with 450+ Mbps Throughput and Smartphone Setup via Dedicated Management Radio
The Ubiquiti airMAX NanoBeam 5AC Gen 2 (NBE-5AC-Gen2) is a 5 GHz outdoor CPE with an integrated 19 dBi dish antenna, airMAX ac TDMA protocol, dual Gigabit Ethernet ports, and a dedicated 2.4 GHz WiFi radio for management. It delivers 450+ Mbps throughput for point-to-point links up to 15 km, powers from a 24V passive PoE adapter (included), and sets up from a smartphone over the management radio without needing to connect a laptop to the unit on the pole. Part of the airMAX networking platform managed through UISP.
The NanoBeam 5AC Gen 2 occupies the mid-range of the airMAX bridge lineup between the compact NanoStation Loco 5AC and the higher-gain PowerBeam series. Its 19 dBi dish provides enough gain for reliable multi-kilometer links while maintaining a small enough form factor for residential pole mounts and commercial building walls without the wind load concerns of larger dishes.
Where the NanoBeam 5AC Gen 2 Fits
- Building-to-building wireless bridges where two locations need a high-throughput 5 GHz link across distances from 100 meters to 15 km without trenching fiber or leasing circuits
- WISP subscriber CPE deployments where an ISP needs a reliable 5 GHz client radio with enough gain to maintain strong signal back to the tower while keeping per-subscriber hardware cost under control
- Remote camera and access point backhaul where a barn, gate house, parking structure, or outbuilding needs Gigabit Ethernet delivered wirelessly from the main network without running cable across the property
What the NanoBeam 5AC Gen 2 Delivers
- 19 dBi integrated dish antenna: Focused beam for point-to-point links with enough gain for 15+ km range in clear line of sight. Compact dish form factor keeps wind loading low on poles and wall mounts.
- airMAX ac with 450+ Mbps throughput: TDMA protocol eliminates hidden node issues and delivers consistent throughput in PtP and PtMP configurations. 5 GHz band avoids 2.4 GHz congestion.
- Dedicated 2.4 GHz management radio: Configure and monitor the unit from a smartphone over WiFi without physically connecting to the Ethernet port. Eliminates ladder climbs for configuration changes.
- Dual Gigabit Ethernet ports: Primary data port plus a secondary port for passthrough to a second device at the mount point, avoiding an additional switch at the remote end.
What Is the Maximum Distance for NanoBeam 5AC?
Ubiquiti rates the NanoBeam 5AC Gen 2 for links up to 15+ km with clear line of sight. Real-world range depends on local RF environment, Fresnel zone clearance, and regulatory power limits. For most deployments under 5 km with clear line of sight, the 19 dBi antenna provides generous link margin. For distances beyond 10 km, the higher-gain PowerBeam series (25+ dBi) may be the better choice. The airMAX link calculator on Ubiquiti's site provides distance and throughput estimates for specific installation scenarios.
