XG-PON Optical Network Unit with 10 Gbps Downstream and 2.5 GbE LAN for WISP Fiber-to-the-Premises Deployments
The Ubiquiti UISP Fiber XG (UISP-FIBER-XG) is an XG-PON optical network unit (ONU) that delivers 10 Gbps downstream and 2.5 Gbps upstream over single-mode fiber spans up to 20 km. It terminates at the subscriber premises with a 2.5 GbE RJ45 LAN port for connecting a router or switch, and powers from the included 24V PoE adapter or via passive PoE from a UISP-compatible device. Managed through the UISP platform for centralized networking device monitoring across fiber deployments.
The Fiber XG is the 10G-capable ONU in the UISP fiber lineup, positioned above the standard UISP Fiber unit that operates on GPON (2.5G/1.25G). For WISPs upgrading subscribers from GPON to XG-PON infrastructure, the Fiber XG provides the customer premises endpoint that terminates the faster downstream signal. The 2.5 GbE LAN port delivers more than Gigabit throughput to the subscriber router without requiring 10 GbE switching at the premises.
Where the UISP Fiber XG Fits
- WISP fiber-to-the-premises deployments where XG-PON infrastructure delivers 10 Gbps downstream to each subscriber ONU and the 2.5 GbE handoff exceeds Gigabit service tiers without 10 GbE CPE
- Multi-dwelling unit (MDU) installations where a single fiber run from the building OLT terminates at each unit with an XG-PON ONU providing 2.5 GbE to the subscriber router
- GPON-to-XG-PON network upgrades where existing GPON subscribers are migrated to faster infrastructure and the Fiber XG replaces the older ONU at the customer premises
What the UISP Fiber XG Delivers
- XG-PON (10G/2.5G): 10 Gbps downstream and 2.5 Gbps upstream over single-mode fiber. Supports next-generation service tiers beyond what GPON infrastructure can deliver.
- 2.5 GbE RJ45 LAN port: Exceeds Gigabit handoff speed to the subscriber router. Delivers full 2.5 Gbps to devices that support it without requiring 10 GbE switching equipment at the premises.
- 20 km fiber span: Single-mode optics support up to 20 km between the OLT and ONU. Covers both dense urban deployments and extended rural fiber runs.
- 24V PoE powered: Included adapter or passive PoE from compatible UISP equipment. Compact form factor installs at the subscriber premises without consuming rack space.
- UISP managed: Centralized monitoring of all deployed ONUs from the UISP dashboard. Firmware updates, status monitoring, and diagnostics across the entire fiber subscriber base.
