4K Turret Camera with AI Detection and Low-Light Color Imaging for Indoor and Covered Outdoor Use
The Ubiquiti UniFi G5 Turret Ultra is a 4K (8MP) PoE turret camera with AI event detection, smart IR night vision, and low-light color imaging in a compact eyeball-style housing. The 3840 x 2160 resolution at 24 fps captures detail that 2K cameras miss at distance, and the low-light sensor maintains color footage in dim conditions where other cameras switch to black-and-white IR far earlier.
The G5 Turret Ultra sits between the G5 Dome Ultra and the AI Pro in the UniFi Protect camera lineup. It adds 4K resolution and low-light color that the G5 Dome Ultra lacks, at a lower price than the AI Pro. The turret form factor allows the lens to be aimed in any direction within the housing, giving more flexibility than a fixed dome when the camera needs to cover an off-angle area. PoE powered, IPX4 rated for covered outdoor use, and managed through UniFi Protect with no subscription fees.
Where the G5 Turret Ultra Fits
- Business entrances and storefronts where 4K resolution captures faces and details at the door while the turret housing allows the lens to be aimed precisely at the entry point
- Hallways, corridors, and warehouse interiors requiring high-resolution coverage down a long sightline where 2K cameras lose detail at the far end
- Covered outdoor areas like building overhangs, loading docks, and covered walkways where IPX4 weather resistance handles splashing rain but the camera is not fully exposed to the elements
What the G5 Turret Ultra Delivers
- 4K (8MP) at 24 fps: 3840 x 2160 resolution from a 2.8 mm wide-angle lens. Enough pixel density to identify faces and read text at distances where a 2K sensor cannot resolve the detail.
- Low-light color imaging: The sensor maintains color footage in dim environments longer than standard cameras, reducing the time spent in black-and-white IR mode and providing more usable nighttime recordings.
- AI event detection: Person and vehicle classification built into UniFi Protect. Smart alerts filter out false triggers from wind, shadows, and lighting changes.
- Adjustable turret lens: The eyeball housing allows the lens to be aimed in any direction after mounting, so one mount position covers multiple angles without repositioning the base.
- IPX4 weatherproof, PoE powered: Rated for splashing water in covered outdoor installations. A single Ethernet cable delivers power and data via 802.3af.
Turret vs Dome: What's the Difference?
Both mount flush to a ceiling or wall, but a turret camera has an exposed eyeball lens that can be aimed freely after installation, while a dome camera encloses the lens behind a fixed transparent cover. Turrets are easier to aim precisely and avoid the IR reflection issues that dome covers can cause at night. Domes are slightly more tamper-resistant because the lens direction is harder to identify from below. For most indoor and covered outdoor installations, the turret offers more aiming flexibility. For vandal-prone public areas, the dome provides a bit more physical protection.
