Ubiquiti UniFi SmartPower RPS - Redundant DC Power for Up to Six UniFi Switches
The Ubiquiti UniFi SmartPower RPS (USP-RPS) is a redundant DC power system that monitors up to six UniFi SmartPower-compatible devices and automatically takes over if an internal power supply fails. It is not a UPS or battery backup. It is a second power source that sits connected and ready so that a failed PSU inside a switch does not take the switch offline, and with it every PoE device the switch was powering.
The USP-RPS fills a gap that a standard UPS cannot cover. A UPS protects against AC power loss; the RPS protects against PSU failure inside the switch itself. In a deployment where UniFi PoE switches power cameras, access control, and access points, a single PSU failure can take an entire floor offline. The RPS prevents that by providing 950W of DC power across six proprietary USP ports, with automatic failover that requires no manual intervention and no network downtime.
Where the USP-RPS Fits
- Server rooms and network closets with PoE-dependent infrastructure where cameras, door controllers, and access points all lose power if the switch PSU fails, and the cost of downtime exceeds the cost of redundancy
- Multi-site deployments and remote locations where a failed switch PSU cannot be replaced in minutes, and keeping the network online until a technician arrives is the priority
- High-availability environments (healthcare, retail, warehousing) where access control and surveillance must stay operational 24/7 and a single point of failure in the power chain is not acceptable
What the USP-RPS Does
- Automatic PSU failover: The RPS continuously monitors the DC power status of every connected device. If an internal PSU fails, the RPS takes over DC power delivery to that device instantly. No manual switching, no network interruption, no PoE drop.
- 950W DC power budget: Enough capacity to back up multiple UniFi Pro and Enterprise PoE switches simultaneously. Six USP DC output ports connect to SmartPower-compatible devices via proprietary DC cables.
- Not a UPS, complements one: The RPS protects against internal PSU failure, not AC power loss. For full redundancy, plug the RPS into a UPS on a separate circuit so both AC outages and PSU failures are covered.
- 1.3" color touchscreen: Displays real-time power status, connected device information, and failover alerts directly on the unit without logging into the dashboard.
- GbE management port: Connects to UniFi Network for remote monitoring, alerts, and status reporting alongside every other device in the deployment.
