Keep Your Rack Online When the Power Goes Out

Rack mount UPS units deliver line-interactive and online double-conversion power protection sized for network closets, server rooms, and edge deployments. Models from Eaton, APC by Schneider Electric, and Vertiv range from compact 1U units for small closets to high-capacity 3U+ systems with external battery expansion. Browse the full UPS and power protection collection for tower, desktop, and rack-mount units across every capacity.

Rack Mount UPS for Every Environment

  • Server rooms and data closets — online double-conversion UPS units deliver conditioned, zero-transfer-time power to servers running business-critical applications around the clock
  • Network closets and IDF rooms — compact 1U and 2U line-interactive models keep switches, firewalls, and access points online during brief outages and voltage fluctuations
  • Data center and colocation racks — high-capacity 3U+ systems pair with external battery packs for extended runtime that bridges the gap until generators start
  • Edge and remote deployments — remote offices, retail locations, and industrial sites rely on rack-mount UPS units to protect networking and compute gear where utility power is inconsistent
  • AV and broadcast racks — protect amplifiers, media servers, and control processors in commercial AV installations where sudden power loss could damage equipment or interrupt a live event

Choosing the Right Rack Mount UPS

Topology, capacity, and form factor are the three decisions that define every rack-mount UPS purchase. Line-interactive units use an autotransformer to regulate voltage and switch to battery only during outages, making them cost-effective and energy-efficient for networking equipment. Online double-conversion units continuously convert incoming AC to DC and back to AC, delivering perfectly conditioned power with zero transfer time for sensitive servers and storage arrays. Eaton 5P and 9PX, APC Smart-UPS, and Vertiv Liebert cover both topologies across capacities from 750VA to 10,000VA+.

Sizing: VA, Watts, and Runtime

Add up the total wattage of every device the UPS will support, then add a 20-30% headroom buffer. UPS capacity is listed in both VA (volt-amperes) and watts; the watt rating must exceed your total load. Under-sizing shortens runtime and can cause the UPS to shut down under full load during an outage. A 1U UPS typically covers 750-1,500VA for small switch stacks, a 2U model handles 1,500-3,000VA for mid-range server racks, and 3U+ chassis accommodate higher capacities with external battery modules for extended runtime.

Complete Your Rack

  • UPS Batteries — replacement battery cartridges and external battery packs to maintain or extend runtime as cells age
  • PDUs — rack-mount power distribution units for organized outlet management downstream of your UPS
  • Surge Protectors — supplemental surge suppression for equipment outside the UPS-protected circuit
  • Rack Cabinets — enclosed and open-frame racks to house your UPS, PDU, and server equipment
  • Servers — rack and tower servers that pair with rack-mount UPS units for protected compute infrastructure
